6 Exciting Things To Do In Armenia

600 years of bondage and being historically known as the first christian country in Europe has not stopped Armenia from cashing in on the tourist industry. So with that in mind what should a tourist, or visitor do in Armenia? That question can not be easily answered because Armenia is big, beautiful, and has plenty to do.

However you probably don’t have all the time in the world, so I am just going to give you the 10 most exciting things you should do when you are there!

Zvartnots Temple
This temple is a symbol of Armenia being the oldest nation with a church. The temple dates back almost 1700 years, and has only just recently been excavated by archeologist. Located on the grounds with the church is a cathedral, seminary, and museum. The Zvartnot temple serves as the Armenian apostoloic church.

The National Gallery
The national gallery is just what its name implies. It stores and shows art from classic to modern. First opening in 1919 it stores not only Armenian art but western too.

Erebuni Fortress
The Erebunni Fortress is not like most fortresses. How many fortresses do you know hold historical artifacts? The fortress is so old that it dates back to before Christ. The fortress is no longer used as a fort, but as a museum to show the world the 22,000 artifacts it contains, and longevity of the fortress.

Geghard cathedral
If you love to see beautiful buildings, and its architectural then the Geghard cathedral is for you. This cathedral is testimony to Armenian architects and their styles. The cathedral is literally hollowed out of rock. The cathedrals name translates to “spear”, and was named due to rumors of it housing the spear that pierced Jesus.

Dilijin
If you like the outdoors and all the beauty it has to offer then Dilijin is must-see. The town is set near a pine forest where you can walk trails, and hike to the alpine lakes. The town features some nice attractions such as museums, soviet-era sanatoriums, and lots of retired artist who are still doing art! Maybe you will get lucky and be able to purchase a rare art piece from some fantastic artist?

Armenia’s Lakes
Take a visit to one or more of Armenia’s lakes. The popular Sevan lake is must-go-to for any fisher, or Armenia visitor.

Armenia isn’t just a country; it is thee country to visit this year. Stop procrastinating and get on the first flight out! I promise you will not regret it!
