Manna’s Sutokil : Sooo Pinoy Food Trip na Pilipinas!

April 11, 2012 – Sooo Pinoy Food Tour Day 1 in Cebu – Previous Post : Ka-On Restaurant in Boracay.

After a month, our foodie group together with Unilever Food Solutions gathered again for another gastronomic journey. This time, the Sooo Pinoy Campaign invades Cebu – The Queen City of the South that is also a famous destination for foodies.

Upon arrival at the Mactan International Airport, we headed straight to Manna’s Sutukil near the Mactan Shrine in Lapu Lapu City. We met the local bloggers and print media who will join us for the rest of the food tour.

Our first stop is a restaurant that offers Sutukil, something that you shouldn’t miss when you visit Cebu. For the unfamiliar, Sutukil is a shortened word for Sugba, Tula and Kilaw. Sugba means Grilled, Tula means simmered in tasty broth and Kilaw means marinated in vinegar.

Before we entered the restaurant, an array of seafoods were displayed in the counter. Each customer can choose the type of seafood they want to eat they they can instruct the attendant to have it cooked the way they want it… Would you like it Sugba, Tula or Kilaw?

We met the owner and she mentioned that they were the 12th restaurant in the area to offer Sutukil. The restaurant opened in December 28, 1998 and the name of the restaurant “Manna” came from a biblical word which means food from heaven.

What sets them apart from other Sutukil restaurant is being the trendsetter. They have introduced crabs from Sulu and scallops from Tacloban. To date Manna’s Sutukil is still the favorite restaurant by local and Japanese tourists. They were also the first to offer various types of lobsters coming from different parts of Mindanao.

Their specialty is baked scallops with oyster sauce and their Tula which is simmered with Knorr fish cubes. I must say that baked scallops is my personal favorite among the dishes served. I also love their Sinigang na MolMol (Parrot Fish), the soup has enough sourness and the fish taste so good.  Although Bam-i noodles is totally not a filipino food, this stir fry noodle dish is one of the restaurants bestseller.
