En Route to Boracay : Sooo Pinoy Food Trip na Pilipinas!

March 14, 2012 – Sooo Pinoy Food Tour Day 3 in Iloilo – Previous Post: Netong’s Original Special La Paz Batchoy.

After having La Paz Batchoy fix at Netong’s Original Special La Paz Batchoy, we passed by another popular restaurant in La Paz Market – The Madge Cafe. Looking at the walls of the Cafeteria / restaurant, I must say this place has been a brewing area not only for coffee but for ideas coming from locals with policical inclination.

The Cafe was established in 1951 and it has been hosting conversations over a cup of coffee that they are well-known for. The place is not just cosidered as the oldest Cafeteria in Panay, it also became the favorite meeting place by Ilonggos. Imagine the resto playing music with different genres over the years… From Jazz to Blues to Kpop?

It was just a short stop, we just took photos and left La Paz Market to meet other Food Tour Participants near the Jaro Cathedral. Before we left Iloilo, we passed by a pasalubong shop also in Jaro owned by De Ocampo Family.

From an old kubo house, the family was able to build a beautiful stone house with beautiful exterior and interior design. Inside the pasalubong shop, an employee demonstrates how barquillos are being made and they are offering samples for free:) The owner generously gave us Siopao for our snacks when she learned that we will be having a long road trip:)

Along the way, we had a short stopover in Pengee’s Restaurant for our Lunch. The resto is so crowded not because they serve good food, It looks like its one of the few places available in the area for stopover.

After almost 5 hours of road trip from Iloilo to Boracay, we finally reached Caticlan at around 4pm. Another boat and short mini jeep transfers and we finally found ourselves in Bans Beach Resort in Boracay.

We just had a quick stop in the hotel to leave our bags and waited for the rest in the beach front while enjoying the colorful boracay sunset. More of our Boracay food trip in my next post:)
